4 Tips of Doing Garage Door Spring Repair

Your garage is a very important component of your home and, therefore, deserves proper maintenance and service. You should always inspect and carefully check the condition of your garage door and all its components in order to ensure that you don’t get unexpected problems. One of the most important parts of the garage door is the Garage Door Spring. The quality of the spring determines the durability and the strength of the door since the spring is always under a lot of pressure when opening and closing the garage door.

There are two main types of the Garage Door Springs, namely Side-mounted springs and Torsion springs. In the process of opening and shutting down the garage doors, the springs are subjected to wear and tear hence hindering smooth movement along the garage door tracks. Therefore, garage springs need constant and perfect repair and maintenance.

Tips for a perfect garage door repair include:

1. Always replace garage door springs as a set

When repairing a broken door spring by replacing, you should always replace as a set. This makes proper sense in that if you have one broken spring, then it is wise to assume that even the other one is also not so strong. Having two new springs gives you a guarantee and assurance of a strong garage door and longevity. Replacing the broken one means that it’s only a matter of time before you replace the other one. In addition, having a new spring and an old spring is not a good combination for a strong garage door since the old one cannot function as smooth as the new one.

2. When repairing Side Mounted Springs, always ensure that you release the tension on the springs before doing your repair, replacement or adjustment.

This is done by fully opening the garage door till it hits the stop bolt on the garage door track and holding it in that position. This helps you to perform a proper repair and maintenance on the door springs or even replace the weak, broken or old ones with the new springs.

3. When repairing torsion springs, always ensure they are under tension

Torsion Springs are dangerous and difficult to repair or replace because they must be adjusted with the garage door in the down position and the springs under tension.

4. Regular Lubrication

Another great way to repair garage springs is through regular lubrication of the door parts such as metal rollers, chains, garage tracks and ball bearings. This prevents tear and rusting hence ensuring smooth movement of the garage door when opening and closing.

Other perfect ways to repair garage door springs and ensure proper functioning of the garage door include cleaning of the garage door tracks, weather-stripping and regular garage door roller checkups.

Repairing garage door springs can be a hard and hectic task.
