For home and commercial owners who
have had their garage doors go off track before, obviously, they do not need to
be told how that can be frustrating. Not only can the problem make the door not
to fully open at all, but can make a home very unsecured until the problem is
sorted. Thankfully, there are quite a number of things people can do should
this problem arise. Should a person realize his or her door is off track today,
here is how to fix the problem.
What causes a garage door to go off
track?
- Before people are told how to fix the problem, it will make a lot of sense if they are made to know about some of the things that can cause a garage door to become off track.
- One of the most common causes is if there is a problem with the cables. If any one of them is broken, a door will go off track. It causes one side to carry the load and will fall track under the weight of the door.
- Worn Out Rollers; over time, the rollers that normally allow the door to move up and down with ease become worn out, or even frozen in place
- Loose Hardware; with daily movement of the door, bolts and nuts holding the door together work themselves loose putting more stress on different parts causing the door to become off track
Obstruction on the path can also make a garage to go off track
How To Repair A Garage Door That Has
Become Off Track
While people are always advised not
to attempt to fix the problem on their own if they do not have the necessary
garage door repair skills and experience, if it is something one can do, here
is how to fix the problem within the shortest time possible.
First things first, disconnect the
door fro the opener and right on top pull that normally release the entire door
from the opener.
Secondly, try to open the door
manually. Try to see the exact position where the wheels are jumping of the
track. Snap a locking pliers below the garage door on one of the tracks, the
pliers acting as a stop.
Thirdly, using a pair of pliers,
gently pull the edge of the track open. Once the door is back of the right
position, using a rubber or wood mallet, knock the track back on track and
finally remove the pliers that is locking.
Last but not least, raise and lower
the garage door and make sure it is operating properly. Use the remote control
to open and close the door. As the opener moves through the usual cycle, it
should actually secure the door release mechanism and start to operate once
again.
Overall, the problem is quite easy
to fix; however, if a person does not want to have this problem now and in
future, there are quite a number of garage door maintenance tips that can help
prevent this problem from happening. The rollers have to be periodically
lubricated with silicone spray and all kinds of debris removed from the track.
Plus, loose nuts and bolts have to be tightened up.
